Until next year…

Hey guys!  Seeing as I have already taken a couple days off from posting, I think I’m going to go ahead and officially declare it a blogging break!  Kind of like college Christmas break!  Only without the carefree days of hanging out with friends, sleeping in, and eating all of my mom and dad’s food.

Like many of you, my heart is so so heavy over the tragic incident in Newtown, CT last Friday and I just don’t feel like there is much I could write that hasn’t already been said or that could bring anyone any type of solace.  So, I’m going to choose to spend the remainder of this year focusing on my family.

When I return after the New Year (who knows, I might just pop in before that?!?), life for these Starrs is going to look a whole lot different.  I look forward to sharing with you in our journey through unemployment, EXTREME financial frugality, and small business start-up.  Yipes.  My eyes fill with tears and stomach begins to knot just writing those words.  But, we rest in peace knowing that a tiny Savior was born for us, died for us, and is here with us through all things.

Merry, merry Christmas dear friends!

Just a picture.

Our TV is almost always on after lunch and before quiet/nap time.  I tell myself that it settles the kids and prepares them to rest.  Really though?  I just want to do my post-lunch pick-up in peace. And it works!  This is how I found the 3 littles a couple of weeks ago.

Happy weekend, friends.  And thanks for welcoming me back to the blogging world with open arms.

the 2 things

If I were to guess, I’d say that there are likely 2 things that you did NOT miss very much while I was away on my blogging break.

1. Meal Planning Monday’s

and

2. An overabundance of grainy, random iPhone photos

Well, consider this your UNlucky day, friends, because this post is jam packed full of both.

And, yes, I realize that today is Monday AND Christmas was a month ago.  Promptness isn’t exactly a forte of mine.

Here’s what’s for dinner at Casa de Starr this week.

Monday: We had some pizza casserole concoction, picked my hungry hubby.

Tuesday: French Toast Bake (yes, we enjoy breakfast for dinner)

Wednesday: I’m doing dinner with some dear friends, while J and the kids dine on Cheese Ravioli and Meatballs

Thursday: Cheddar Veggie Sausage Casserole

Friday:  Stir Fry

Moving on.  Random iPhone – not even Instagrammed (*gasp* i know!) – photos of our Christmas with J’s family, Christmas with my grandma, and the days in between.

*chirp chirp*

As my feet hit the floor this morning, 2 things went through my head.

1.  I should have just wore my workout clothes to bed.

and

2.  I kind of feel like blogging today.

The first isn’t a new thought.  But the second?  It’s actually the only time in the last month I’ve felt that way. In all honesty, the last month hasn’t been our best — sickness, sadness, doggy death, and scary decisions – and like my mom always said, “If you don’t have anything nice to blog, don’t blog anything at all.”  Ok, that’s not exactly how the saying went, but you know what I’m getting at.  Now, that’s not to say that there haven’t been some great moments since I blogged last.  There have.  You see?  Regardless of how I feel about this season of life, time just keeps on marching on and memories keep on being made.  So, while I’ve truly enjoyed my little bloggy break, I also know that I am waaaayyy behind on documenting life.  And after all, that is the sole purpose of this blog.  I just know that, whether it be in one month from now or one decade from now, I’m going to want to be able to go back to see what life was like.  Right now.  Even in the midst of the hard, icky stuff.  Because right there – in the deepest part of the crap – are memories being made.

So, friends!  HOLD ON TIGHT!  There are a LOT of Christmas pictures coming your way in the next week or so.  And hopefully it won’t be long before I’m back to posting too many kid pics, carrying on about my adventures in meal planning, and telling tales of too much fun with our foursome.

First up in the Christmas catch-up game – our visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus!  You may remember our mall meetings from years past.  This year we went a whole ‘nother direction and decided to forego Mall Santa in favor of Library Santa.  Best.Decision.Ever.  We completely avoided the crazy mall madness and instead got a relaxed, fun evening with a very sweet Santa and his lovely bride.  The kids had a blast.  See?
